Community Guidelines

Effective Date: August 1, 2026

Last Updated: August 22, 2026

Welcome to the Ask Parts of Canada Community

The Ask Parts of Canada Community is a place for homeowners, appliance owners, technicians, tradespeople, industry professionals, and other members to exchange practical information about appliance troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, parts, and repair.

Our goal is to maintain a community that is:

  • respectful and welcoming;
  • technically useful;
  • organized and searchable;
  • transparent about commercial interests;
  • protective of personal information and intellectual property; and
  • above all, safety-conscious.

Appliance repair can involve electricity, natural gas or propane, refrigerants, pressurized systems, water, moving equipment, high temperatures, sharp components, stored electrical energy, combustion products, and other significant hazards. For that reason, safety standards in this Community are stricter than those that may be appropriate for an ordinary discussion forum.

These Community Guidelines apply to all areas of the Community, including posts, questions, answers, comments, profiles, usernames, images, attachments, links, reviews, private or direct communications made through the platform, and other user-generated content or interactions.

By accessing or participating in the Community, you agree to follow these Community Guidelines and any applicable Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Parts Store Terms, Return and Warranty Policy, Cookie Policy, and other policies or notices published by Ask Parts of Canada.

These Guidelines establish Community standards. They do not replace applicable laws, regulations, manufacturer instructions, safety standards, licensing requirements, permits, inspections, or professional judgment.

1. Treat Everyone with Respect

Respectful technical discussion is fundamental to this Community.

Members must treat one another professionally and courteously regardless of technical experience, occupation, age, background, appliance knowledge, or whether they agree on a diagnosis or repair method.

Prohibited conduct

Do not engage in:

  • harassment, bullying, intimidation, stalking, or threats;
  • personal attacks, insults, degrading comments, or name-calling;
  • hateful or discriminatory content;
  • malicious ridicule of beginners or people asking basic questions;
  • sexually harassing or sexually explicit communications directed at another member;
  • repeated unwanted communications;
  • threats of violence or encouragement of violence;
  • encouraging others to harass, target, or interfere with a person;
  • publishing personal information for the purpose of intimidation or harassment; or
  • abusive behaviour toward moderators, contributors, technicians, customers, manufacturers, suppliers, or other users.

Constructive disagreement is welcome

Members may disagree about:

  • diagnostic procedures;
  • likely component failures;
  • parts selection;
  • wiring interpretations;
  • repair techniques;
  • manufacturer recommendations;
  • serviceability;
  • technical specifications; or
  • whether professional service is required.

Keep disagreements focused on the technical issue, available evidence, measurements, documentation, or repair procedure.

Challenge the information, not the person providing it.

2. Safety Comes First

No repair is worth a serious injury, fire, gas incident, electrical shock, refrigerant exposure, flood, or other preventable hazard.

Members must not encourage another person to undertake work that presents an unreasonable risk given the circumstances or the person's apparent knowledge and equipment.

When providing technical advice

Where relevant, members should:

  • identify significant hazards associated with the procedure;
  • recommend disconnecting electrical power before servicing equipment where appropriate;
  • recognize that some capacitors and electrical components can retain dangerous energy after power has been disconnected;
  • recommend shutting off water, natural gas, propane, or other supplies when required;
  • use appropriate electrical and mechanical testing procedures;
  • follow manufacturer service information where available;
  • use properly rated tools and test equipment;
  • recommend suitable personal protective equipment where appropriate;
  • account for sharp sheet-metal edges, moving components, hot surfaces, pressure, and stored energy;
  • recognize the possibility of carbon-monoxide and combustion hazards;
  • avoid making assumptions about wiring, grounding, polarity, voltage, or gas configuration;
  • recommend qualified professional assistance when specialized knowledge, certification, licensing, equipment, or permits are required; and
  • acknowledge when regulatory requirements may vary by province, territory, municipality, building type, fuel source, or trade.

3. Dangerous Repair Instructions Are Not Permitted

Ask Parts of Canada may restrict or remove instructions that create an unreasonable risk of death, injury, fire, electrical shock, gas leakage, carbon-monoxide exposure, flooding, environmental harm, or major property damage.

Do not instruct another member to permanently defeat, bypass, remove, or disable a required safety device.

Examples may include:

  • door or lid safety switches;
  • thermal cut-offs;
  • high-limit thermostats;
  • over-temperature protection;
  • fuses or circuit protection;
  • grounding or bonding systems;
  • flame-safeguard systems;
  • gas-valve safety systems;
  • pressure controls;
  • airflow or venting safeguards;
  • leak-detection systems;
  • interlocks;
  • overload protection;
  • combustion-safety controls; or
  • other manufacturer-installed protective devices.

Do not recommend operating an appliance with a known serious safety defect.

Do not encourage unsafe live-voltage testing, energized disassembly, or similar work by a person who does not appear to possess the necessary competence, equipment, and safeguards.

Do not encourage a user to substitute an unsuitable component merely because the correct component is unavailable.

Temporary diagnostic bypasses

Some professional diagnostic procedures may involve temporary testing of a circuit or component.

That does not make a bypass an acceptable permanent repair.

Ask Parts of Canada may remove or restrict even temporary bypass instructions where the context is inadequate, the procedure could readily be misunderstood, or there is a material risk that another person could reproduce it unsafely.

4. When to Stop Using an Appliance

Members should recommend discontinuing use when available information suggests a significant safety hazard.

Examples include:

  • a suspected natural-gas or propane leak;
  • burning odours accompanied by overheating, smoke, or electrical damage;
  • visible arcing;
  • melted wiring or electrical terminals;
  • exposed energized conductors;
  • repeated breaker or fuse operation associated with an unresolved electrical fault;
  • suspected carbon-monoxide production;
  • flame rollout or abnormal combustion;
  • severe overheating;
  • uncontrolled water leakage near electrical equipment;
  • structural failure affecting safe operation;
  • a defeated safety system; or
  • another condition presenting an imminent risk of injury or substantial property damage.

The Community is not an emergency-response service.

In an immediate emergency, move away from the danger and contact the appropriate emergency service, utility provider, building authority, fire department, qualified technician, or other responsible service as appropriate to the circumstances.

Do not wait for a Community response when immediate danger exists.

5. Community Advice is not a Substiture for Professional Service

Information in the Community is provided for general informational and troubleshooting purposes.

Appliances that appear identical may differ because of:

  • model number;
  • serial number;
  • production revision;
  • manufacturing date;
  • electrical configuration;
  • gas type;
  • regional configuration;
  • control-board revision;
  • firmware or software;
  • installed options;
  • previous modifications;
  • installation conditions; or
  • jurisdictional requirements.

An answer that is correct for one appliance may therefore be incorrect or unsafe for another.

Users are responsible for deciding whether they have the knowledge, tools, equipment, authorization, and qualifications necessary to perform any procedure discussed in the Community.

A username, profile description, badge, reputation score, number of posts, contributor status, or statement that a member is a technician does not by itself constitute:

  • verification of professional qualifications;
  • confirmation of licensing;
  • certification by Ask Parts of Canada;
  • an endorsement;
  • a warranty; or
  • a professional-client relationship.

Where the work exceeds your competence, use a qualified service professional.

6. Regulated and Licensed Work

Canadian repair requirements are not identical in every jurisdiction.

Electrical, gas, refrigeration, building, environmental, fire-safety, occupational, permit, and trade requirements may vary between:

  • provinces;
  • territories;
  • municipalities;
  • building types;
  • appliance categories; and
  • types of work being performed.

Nothing posted in the Community authorizes a person to perform work for which a licence, certificate, permit, registration, qualification, inspection, or other authorization is legally required.

Do not encourage another person to evade applicable:

  • electrical requirements;
  • gas-fitting requirements;
  • refrigerant-handling requirements;
  • environmental requirements;
  • building or fire codes;
  • permit requirements;
  • inspection requirements;
  • trade licensing or certification requirements; or
  • occupational safety requirements.

Members remain responsible for determining which legal and regulatory requirements apply where the work is performed.

7. Refrigerants and Environmentally Regulated Materials

Refrigeration and air-conditioning work can involve regulated refrigerants, specialized recovery equipment, high pressures, oils, chemicals, and environmental requirements.

Do not encourage:

  • deliberate venting or unlawful release of regulated refrigerants;
  • unsafe charging or recovery procedures;
  • using inappropriate refrigerant substitutes;
  • mixing incompatible refrigerants;
  • defeating pressure or temperature safety controls;
  • handling regulated substances contrary to applicable requirements; or
  • performing work requiring qualifications or equipment the person does not possess.

Advice concerning refrigeration systems should clearly distinguish general troubleshooting from work that should be performed by a qualified person.

The same principle applies to regulated chemicals, oils, electronic components, batteries, contaminated materials, and other substances requiring controlled disposal or handling.

8. Keep Posts Relevant and Organized

The Community is intended to become a useful technical knowledge base, not simply a stream of isolated conversations.

Members should make reasonable efforts to keep content organized.

Post in the correct category

Choose the appliance category, manufacturer, tag, or subject area that best describes the question.

Examples may include:

  • Refrigerators & Freezers;
  • Washers;
  • Dryers;
  • Dishwashers;
  • Ranges & Ovens;
  • Cooktops;
  • Microwaves;
  • Ice Makers; and
  • Other Appliances.

Moderators may move, retag, merge, rename, or reorganize content when doing so improves the Community.

Search before posting

Before creating a new topic, search for:

  • the appliance model number;
  • error or fault codes;
  • symptoms;
  • part numbers;
  • manufacturer information; or
  • an existing discussion describing the same problem.

Use descriptive titles

Prefer:

Whirlpool WDT750SAKZ dishwasher — F9E1 error after drain-pump replacement

instead of:

PLEASE HELP — BROKEN DISHWASHER

Clear titles make questions easier to find and more likely to receive a useful answer.

9. Provide Enough Information for an Accurate Diagnosis

When seeking technical help, include as much relevant information as reasonably possible.

Useful information may include:

  • complete model number;
  • serial number or manufacturing date where relevant;
  • appliance type;
  • exact symptoms;
  • error codes;
  • when the problem occurs;
  • recent repairs;
  • parts already replaced;
  • measurements already taken;
  • abnormal sounds or odours;
  • relevant photographs;
  • wiring or connection information; and
  • troubleshooting already performed.

Do not unnecessarily publish information that identifies you or another person.

Serial numbers should be shared only when genuinely useful to the technical discussion.

10. Technical Accuracy and Evidence

The Community works best when technical claims can be evaluated.

When giving advice, distinguish between:

  • confirmed facts;
  • measurements;
  • manufacturer specifications;
  • documented service procedures;
  • personal experience;
  • common failure patterns;
  • diagnostic hypotheses; and
  • assumptions.

Whenever practical, explain the reasoning behind a recommended test.

For example, instead of simply stating:

Replace the control board.

A stronger response may explain which input, output, voltage, sensor reading, error code, or observed behaviour supports that conclusion.

Do not knowingly provide false technical information

Prohibited behaviour includes deliberately posting:

  • fabricated specifications;
  • invented error-code meanings;
  • fictional manufacturer procedures;
  • false wiring information;
  • manipulated diagnostic results;
  • intentionally misleading part numbers; or
  • dangerous information represented as established fact.

If you are uncertain, say so.

Correcting your own earlier recommendation when new information becomes available is encouraged.

11. Parts Recommendations and Compatibility

Visual similarity does not establish part compatibility.

When recommending a replacement part:

  • obtain the complete model number where reasonably possible;
  • account for model suffixes and production revisions;
  • verify the manufacturer part number where possible;
  • distinguish original equipment, authorized replacement, aftermarket, rebuilt, refurbished, and used parts when relevant;
  • identify uncertainty where compatibility cannot be confirmed; and
  • do not recommend modification of a safety system merely to accommodate an incorrect part.

Users should independently verify compatibility before ordering or installing a component.

A part recommendation made by a Community member is not automatically a compatibility guarantee by Ask Parts of Canada or its Parts Store.

Transactions with the Parts Store are governed by the applicable Parts Store, return, warranty, shipping, and other commercial terms.

12. No Illegal, Fraudulent, or Harmful Activity

Do not use the Community to request, promote, coordinate, facilitate, or meaningfully assist unlawful conduct.

Examples may include content intended to facilitate:

  • theft;
  • fraud;
  • deliberate property damage;
  • utility theft;
  • tampering with metering equipment;
  • unauthorized access to accounts, equipment, or computer systems;
  • concealment of dangerous defects for resale;
  • falsification of warranty claims;
  • falsification of service records;
  • fraudulent product returns;
  • counterfeiting;
  • intentional violation of safety requirements;
  • unlawful disposal of regulated substances; or
  • violence or serious physical harm.

Legitimate discussion about security, regulations, safety failures, repairability, technical vulnerabilities, product recalls, and historical incidents is permitted when the purpose is educational, diagnostic, preventive, or safety-related.

13. Counterfeit, Stolen, and Misrepresented Parts

Do not use the Community to sell, source, promote, or knowingly facilitate:

  • stolen parts or appliances;
  • counterfeit components;
  • fraudulently obtained merchandise;
  • falsified certification labels;
  • altered safety labels;
  • forged warranty documentation;
  • tampered serial numbers; or
  • components falsely represented as genuine OEM products.

Discussion intended to help members identify counterfeit, unsafe, recalled, or misrepresented parts is encouraged.

14. Protect Personal Information and Privacy

Do not publish another person's personal information without authorization unless there is a clear lawful reason to do so.

Examples include:

  • home addresses;
  • personal telephone numbers;
  • private email addresses;
  • account credentials;
  • passwords;
  • financial information;
  • payment-card information;
  • government identification;
  • customer files;
  • private service records;
  • access codes;
  • private messages;
  • Wi-Fi credentials;
  • security-system information; or
  • information that could reasonably be used to identify or locate a person unnecessarily.

This rule applies to information about:

  • customers;
  • technicians;
  • employees;
  • landlords;
  • tenants;
  • neighbours;
  • other Community members; and
  • other identifiable individuals.

Check photographs before uploading them

Images may unintentionally reveal:

  • shipping labels;
  • invoices;
  • names;
  • addresses;
  • telephone numbers;
  • email addresses;
  • QR codes;
  • barcodes;
  • customer documents;
  • computer screens;
  • Wi-Fi passwords;
  • alarm information; or
  • identifying information visible in the background.

Crop, obscure, or remove unnecessary personal information before posting.

If you discover sensitive personal information in another person's post, report the content rather than copying or redistributing the information.

Ask Parts of Canada's own collection, use, storage, retention, safeguarding, access, and disclosure of personal information is addressed in the Privacy Policy.

15. Do Not Doxx Other People

"Doxxing" includes publishing or compiling private or identifying information about another person in a manner intended, or reasonably likely, to expose that person to harassment, intimidation, unwanted contact, or physical risk.

Doxxing is prohibited.

This restriction applies even when pieces of the information can individually be found elsewhere.

16. No Spam

Do not flood the Community with:

  • repetitive posts;
  • automated messages;
  • irrelevant external links;
  • keyword stuffing;
  • duplicate questions;
  • mass-generated answers;
  • referral spam;
  • unsolicited promotional messages; or
  • content whose primary purpose is manipulating search rankings or directing traffic elsewhere.

Moderators may remove repetitive or low-value content even where each individual post would not otherwise violate these Guidelines.

17. Advertising, Solicitation, and Self-Promotion

The Community is primarily a technical resource, not an unrestricted advertising marketplace.

Do not use questions, answers, comments, private messages, profiles, or other Community features principally to solicit business unless Ask Parts of Canada has expressly provided a feature for that purpose.

Prohibited activity may include:

  • repeated promotion of your own repair business;
  • unsolicited sales pitches;
  • irrelevant product links;
  • undisclosed affiliate links;
  • lead-generation spam;
  • promotional coupon posting;
  • posting fake technical questions designed to advertise a product;
  • repeatedly directing members to a commercial website without a genuine technical reason; or
  • messaging members unsolicited to sell services.

Professionals may identify their experience and may link to relevant supporting resources when the link materially assists with the technical discussion and is not primarily promotional.

18. Commercial Relationships Must Be Disclosed

Industry participation is welcome when it improves the quality of the Community.

Manufacturers, distributors, parts sellers, technicians, service businesses, consultants, employees, affiliates, and other commercial participants must not present advertising or financially motivated recommendations as independent advice.

If you have a material relationship with a business, product, brand, service, or website you recommend, disclose it clearly when that relationship would not otherwise be obvious.

A material connection may include:

  • employment;
  • ownership;
  • commissions;
  • affiliate compensation;
  • sponsorship;
  • free products;
  • free services;
  • discounts;
  • paid endorsements;
  • contractual relationships;
  • agency relationships; or
  • another financial or personal connection capable of affecting perceived independence.

Disclosures should be clear and placed sufficiently close to the relevant recommendation that an ordinary reader can understand the relationship.

Do not hide a material commercial relationship only in a profile biography or elsewhere where readers are unlikely to notice it.

19. Reviews and Testimonials Must Be Genuine

Members may share genuine experiences with:

  • appliances;
  • repair businesses;
  • manufacturers;
  • parts;
  • retailers;
  • distributors;
  • service providers; and
  • other relevant products or services.

Reviews and testimonials must reflect a genuine experience and must not be materially misleading.

Do not:

  • fabricate reviews;
  • purchase or sell fake reviews;
  • coordinate false positive or negative reviews;
  • review your own business while pretending to be an independent customer;
  • conceal a material relationship relevant to a review;
  • use multiple accounts to manipulate ratings;
  • knowingly make false factual allegations; or
  • threaten to publish harmful reviews in an attempt to improperly obtain money, merchandise, services, refunds, or other benefits.

Ask Parts of Canada may remove reviews that appear fraudulent, manipulated, retaliatory, or unrelated to a genuine experience.

20. Respect Copyright and Intellectual Property

Post only material you have the right to share.

Do not upload, copy, or distribute substantial copyrighted or proprietary material without authorization.

Examples may include:

  • paid service manuals;
  • subscription-only technical databases;
  • copyrighted training material;
  • proprietary diagnostic databases;
  • copyrighted photographs;
  • paid technical bulletins not authorized for redistribution;
  • proprietary software;
  • firmware obtained or distributed unlawfully;
  • copyrighted diagrams copied substantially in full; or
  • another website's articles or technical content.

Members may ordinarily:

  • link to legitimate external documentation;
  • describe procedures in their own words;
  • refer to factual technical information;
  • discuss service documentation lawfully available to them; and
  • make uses otherwise permitted by applicable law.

Do not encourage an employee, contractor, authorized servicer, distributor, or other person to breach a confidentiality obligation or unlawfully disclose proprietary information.

Ask Parts of Canada may respond to valid intellectual-property complaints in accordance with applicable law and its established procedures.

21. Respect Trademarks and Brand Identity

Members may refer to appliance brands, model names, and manufacturers for legitimate technical discussion.

Do not impersonate a manufacturer or falsely suggest that:

  • you represent a manufacturer;
  • you are an authorized service centre;
  • your account is an official corporate account;
  • Ask Parts of Canada endorses your business; or
  • a manufacturer endorses your advice,

unless that statement is true and appropriately authorized.

22. Account Authenticity and Impersonation

Do not:

  • impersonate another individual;
  • impersonate a technician, moderator, manufacturer, government authority, or business;
  • falsely claim a licence, certification, qualification, or professional designation;
  • falsely claim employment or business affiliation;
  • create deceptive accounts intended to mislead other members;
  • use another person's account without authorization;
  • create additional accounts to evade enforcement action; or
  • operate coordinated accounts to manipulate Community discussion.

Pseudonyms are permitted provided they are not used deceptively.

23. Automated, Bot, and AI-Generated Content

Artificial intelligence and automated tools can assist with research, drafting, translation, and technical discussion, but the person posting remains responsible for the content.

Do not use automation to flood the Community with low-quality material.

Do not present fabricated AI-generated technical information as verified fact.

AI-assisted content involving significant safety issues should be independently verified before being presented as authoritative, particularly when it concerns:

  • wiring;
  • voltage;
  • amperage;
  • gas systems;
  • combustion;
  • refrigerants;
  • safety devices;
  • electrical measurements;
  • manufacturer specifications;
  • error codes;
  • component compatibility; or
  • regulated repair procedures.

Ask Parts of Canada may restrict automated accounts, bulk-generated content, or repetitive AI-generated submissions that degrade Community quality or safety.

24. Images, Video, and Other Uploads

Do not upload content that:

  • violates another person's privacy;
  • infringes intellectual-property rights;
  • contains malicious files or code;
  • depicts illegal conduct for the purpose of facilitating it;
  • exposes confidential customer information;
  • contains irrelevant graphic violence or sexual content;
  • is deliberately misleading; or
  • is otherwise prohibited by these Guidelines.

Images showing potentially dangerous repair conditions may be permitted when they are relevant to legitimate troubleshooting, education, documentation, or safety discussion.

25. External Links

External links should have a legitimate connection to the discussion. Links may be removed where they:

  • lead to malware or phishing;
  • facilitate illegal activity;
  • are primarily promotional;
  • contain undisclosed affiliate tracking;
  • repeatedly redirect members to irrelevant commercial content;
  • falsely imitate a manufacturer or trusted organization; or
  • pose a material security risk.

A link appearing in the Community does not constitute endorsement by Ask Parts of Canada.

Members should exercise appropriate care before downloading files or providing personal information to third-party websites.

26. Security and Platform Abuse

Do not interfere with the security, integrity, operation, or availability of the Community. Prohibited activity includes:

  • attempting to gain unauthorized access;
  • credential theft;
  • phishing;
  • introducing malware;
  • exploiting vulnerabilities to disrupt the service;
  • circumventing access controls;
  • scraping in violation of applicable platform restrictions;
  • manipulating voting, reputation, or ranking mechanisms;
  • mass account creation;
  • evading technical enforcement measures; or
  • using the Community to attack another service.

Responsible reports of genuine security vulnerabilities should be submitted through the appropriate Ask Parts of Canada contact or security-reporting channel rather than publicly disclosing exploitable details that could create immediate risk.

27. Protect Minors and Vulnerable Users

Do not encourage a child, minor, or person who clearly lacks the necessary ability to undertake hazardous electrical, gas, mechanical, refrigerant, combustion, or other high-risk repair work.

Where appropriate, recommend assistance from:

  • a responsible adult;
  • a property owner or building manager;
  • an appropriately qualified technician;
  • a utility;
  • an emergency service; or
  • another suitable professional.

Do not unnecessarily post personally identifiable information about minors.

28. Private Messages Are Also Subject to These Guidelines

If the Community provides private or direct messaging, those communications remain subject to applicable Community rules.

Do not use private messages for:

  • harassment;
  • threats;
  • spam;
  • unsolicited commercial solicitation;
  • fraud;
  • attempts to circumvent moderation;
  • requests for unlawful activity; or
  • repeated unwanted communication.

A message being private does not make prohibited conduct acceptable.

29. Reporting a Problem

If you believe a post, answer, comment, profile, message, image, attachment, or other activity violates these Guidelines, use the Community's available Report feature.

If a Report feature is unavailable or the issue requires special attention, use the official Contact Us channel published by Ask Parts of Canada.

A useful report should identify:

  • the content concerned;
  • the reason for the report;
  • the relevant Guideline where known; and
  • any additional context necessary to understand the issue.

Do not misuse reporting tools to retaliate against members with whom you merely disagree.

Technical disagreement alone is not misconduct.

30. Moderation

Ask Parts of Canada may moderate the Community to:

  • protect users;
  • reduce safety risks;
  • maintain technical quality;
  • prevent abuse;
  • organize information;
  • enforce these Guidelines and other platform policies; and
  • comply with applicable legal obligations.

Moderation may be performed by employees, contractors, authorized moderators, automated systems, or a combination of these methods.

Where appropriate, moderators may:

  • correct formatting;
  • edit titles;
  • change categories or tags;
  • merge duplicate discussions;
  • remove irrelevant portions of posts;
  • add safety notices;
  • limit content visibility;
  • remove content;
  • lock discussions;
  • disable specific Community features;
  • restrict posting privileges;
  • issue warnings;
  • temporarily suspend accounts;
  • permanently suspend accounts; or
  • take other reasonable measures appropriate to the circumstances.

Moderators are not required to use each enforcement step sequentially.

31. Serious Violations May Result in Immediate Action

Ask Parts of Canada may act without a prior warning when circumstances reasonably justify immediate intervention.

Examples may include:

  • credible threats;
  • serious harassment;
  • doxxing;
  • deliberate dissemination of dangerous repair instructions;
  • significant fraud;
  • malicious software;
  • serious platform-security abuse;
  • unlawful content;
  • substantial spam campaigns;
  • impersonation creating material harm;
  • repeated ban evasion; or
  • conduct creating an immediate safety risk.

The availability of a lesser enforcement measure does not require Ask Parts of Canada to use it.

32. Factors Considered in Enforcement

Where appropriate, moderation decisions may consider:

  • seriousness of the conduct;
  • context;
  • apparent intent;
  • foreseeability of harm;
  • actual or potential harm;
  • whether the content was corrected;
  • whether the violation was repeated;
  • prior Community history;
  • attempts to circumvent moderation;
  • cooperation with moderators;
  • technical or safety implications; and
  • applicable legal obligations.

Different situations may therefore result in different enforcement outcomes even where individual elements appear similar.

33.Appeals

Where Ask Parts of Canada makes an appeal mechanism available, a member may request review of a significant moderation decision.

An appeal should explain:

  • the decision being challenged;
  • why the member believes the decision was incorrect;
  • relevant context;
  • any misunderstanding the member believes occurred; and
  • any corrective action already taken.

An appeal does not guarantee reversal of the original decision.

Ask Parts of Canada may decline to repeatedly reconsider substantially identical appeals after a reasonable review has been completed.

Threatening, abusive, fraudulent, or intentionally disruptive appeals may be closed.

34. Content May Be Preserved When Necessary

Deleting a post or closing an account does not necessarily mean all associated information can or will immediately be deleted.

Subject to applicable law and Ask Parts of Canada's Privacy Policy, information may be retained where reasonably necessary for purposes such as:

  • security;
  • fraud prevention;
  • investigation;
  • moderation records;
  • dispute resolution;
  • legal obligations;
  • preservation requirements;
  • enforcement of applicable agreements; or
  • establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims.

The Privacy Policy governs Ask Parts of Canada's handling of personal information.

35. Cooperation With Legal Requirements

Ask Parts of Canada may preserve, restrict, disclose, or remove information where reasonably necessary and legally permitted or required to:

  • comply with applicable legislation;
  • respond to valid legal process;
  • comply with a court order, warrant, or other binding requirement;
  • investigate suspected fraud or abuse;
  • address security incidents;
  • protect the safety, rights, or security of users or others; or
  • enforce applicable agreements and policies.

Any handling of personal information in these circumstances remains subject to applicable privacy and other legal requirements.

36. Canadian Privacy Context

Ask Parts of Canada operates in a Canadian legal environment in which the privacy law applicable to a particular activity can depend on the jurisdiction, nature of the organization, type of activity, and movement of personal information.

Applicable requirements may include federal privacy legislation and, where relevant, provincial private-sector privacy legislation.

Ask Parts of Canada's Privacy Policy provides the authoritative explanation of how the organization collects, uses, discloses, safeguards, retains, and otherwise handles personal information.

Community members should not interpret these Community Guidelines as a complete statement of Ask Parts of Canada's privacy practices.

37. Commercial Electronic Communications

Community participation should not be treated as automatic consent to receive unrelated promotional communications from other members.

Do not collect Community members' email addresses, telephone numbers, or other electronic addresses for unsolicited marketing.

Commercial electronic communications sent by Ask Parts of Canada are governed by the applicable consent, identification, unsubscribe, and other requirements established by Canadian law and by the consent choices presented to users.

Marketing preferences should be managed through the mechanisms provided by Ask Parts of Canada.

38. Québec Users

Ask Parts of Canada recognizes that additional requirements may apply when conducting business or offering services to consumers in Québec, including requirements relating to privacy, consumer transactions, and the French language.

Where required by applicable law, French-language versions of relevant consumer-facing documents, contracts, policies, commercial information, or services should be made available in accordance with applicable requirements.

Where there is a conflict between these Community Guidelines and a mandatory statutory right applicable to a Québec consumer, the mandatory statutory right prevails.

39. Consumer Rights Are Not Waived

Nothing in these Community Guidelines is intended to exclude, restrict, or waive a consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted, or waived.

Purchases from the Parts Store or other commercial transactions are governed by the applicable purchase, shipping, returns, warranty, and consumer terms.

Community discussions about a product, repair, or part do not modify those commercial terms unless Ask Parts of Canada expressly confirms otherwise through an authorized channel.

40. Community Content Is User-Generated

Opinions, recommendations, diagnoses, reviews, statements, and other submissions made by Community members generally represent the views of the member who submitted them.

Unless expressly identified as an official Ask Parts of Canada statement, user-generated content should not be interpreted as:

  • an official diagnosis;
  • an official manufacturer instruction;
  • professional advice from Ask Parts of Canada;
  • a warranty;
  • a representation by the Parts Store;
  • a product guarantee; or
  • an endorsement by Ask Parts of Canada.

Ask Parts of Canada may moderate content without assuming authorship of that content.

41. No Guarantee That Every Post Will Be Reviewed

Ask Parts of Canada may moderate Community content but does not guarantee that every submission will be reviewed before or after publication.

The existence of moderation does not mean:

  • every technical statement has been verified;
  • every dangerous statement will immediately be detected;
  • every product recommendation has been tested;
  • every professional qualification has been verified; or
  • every external link has been independently reviewed.

If you see unsafe or prohibited content, report it.
